Carlos Yulo Falls on Vault, Still Advances to Asian Games Final.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo experienced a difficult moment during the men’s artistic gymnastics qualification at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, after falling on the landing of his first vault attempt on Monday, September 21.
Despite the mistake, Carlos recovered on his second vault and still secured a place in the vault final, while also advancing to the finals of the floor exercise and parallel bars.
He finished the individual all-around qualification with 75.465 points.

The biggest setback of Yulo’s qualification came during the vault. He failed to stick the landing on his first attempt and fell. His first vault received 13.166 points but he recovered on his second attempt with 14.133 points.
The two vault scores gave him an average of 13.649 points, placing him 7th in the qualification and allowing him to advance to the vault final.
Later, He acknowledged that the mistake was difficult to accept but said he was grateful that he was safe after the fall.

Despite the vault error, Yulo produced competitive scores across the six apparatus in the individual all-around qualification.

When are Carlo’s finals?
Yulo’s qualification results give him several more opportunities during the gymnastics competition.
The men’s team final is scheduled for September 23, followed by the floor exercise final on September 24. The vault and parallel bars finals are scheduled for September 25.
For Carlo’s vault fall was a setback during the qualification, but he recovered well enough to remain in contention for medals in three individual apparatus events.
