Huawei has officially introduced the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design, its newest tri-fold smartphone and successor to the original Mate XT.
The new foldable phone brings several upgrades, including a redesigned folding mechanism, a Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, upgraded cameras, a larger battery and an optional privacy display.
Huawei unveiled the Mate XT 2 in China on September 7, 2026, with sales scheduled to begin on September 12.
Huawei Mate XT 2 Display
The Mate XT 2’s biggest feature is its tri-fold design, allowing the device to function as both a smartphone and a tablet-sized device.
When fully unfolded, it has a 10.2-inch OLED display with a 2232 × 3184 resolution. When folded, the phone uses a 6.5-inch outer display with a 2442 × 1140 resolution.
The outer screen supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz, while the main flexible display supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 90Hz.
Huawei also uses Kunlun glass on the outer display and ultra-thin glass technology for the flexible inner screen.
Redesigned Folding Mechanism
Huawei has changed the folding design from the previous Mate XT.
The Mate XT 2 folds inward, helping protect the flexible display when the phone is closed. The device measures approximately 12.3mm thick when folded and weighs around 299 grams.
Huawei also lists IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance under controlled testing conditions.
As with other foldable smartphones, Huawei notes that resistance can decrease through normal use and wear.
Kirin 9050 Pro and HarmonyOS 7
The Huawei Mate XT 2 is powered by the Kirin 9050 Pro processor and runs HarmonyOS 7.0.
The phone comes with 16GB of RAM, while storage options range from 256GB to 1TB depending on the configuration.
A higher-end version with additional privacy-display features and accessories can offer up to 2TB of storage.
The large foldable screen is designed to give users more space for multitasking, productivity, entertainment, and other applications.
Upgraded Camera System
Huawei has also focused heavily on the camera capabilities of the Mate XT 2.
The phone features a 50-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture from f/1.49 to f/4.0, optical image stabilization, and an RYYB sensor.
The main camera is joined by a 40-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with optical image stabilization.
Huawei also includes its third-generation Red Maple Color Camera technology for improved color reproduction.
The front-facing camera can record video at up to 4K resolution.
5,600mAh Battery
Despite its thin folding design, the Mate XT 2 comes with a 5,600mAh battery.
Huawei supports up to 66W wired SuperCharge and up to 50W wireless charging. The device can also provide wireless reverse charging for compatible devices.
The larger battery is particularly important for a device with multiple displays, especially when the large inner screen is used for extended periods.
Privacy Display Option
One of the more unusual features of the Mate XT 2 is its optional privacy display technology.
The feature is designed to make information on the screen harder to view from the sides. This can be useful when using the phone in public areas such as restaurants, airports, offices, or public transportation.
The privacy display option is available on selected higher-end configurations.
Huawei Mate XT 2 Price
The Huawei Mate XT 2 starts at 19,999 yuan in China, while the top configuration is priced at 24,999 yuan.
Sales in China are scheduled to start on September 12, 2026. Huawei has not yet confirmed an international release date or official Philippine pricing for the Mate XT 2.
Filipino buyers interested in importing the device should also consider warranty coverage, software support, network compatibility and after-sales service before purchasing.
Is the Huawei Mate XT 2 Worth Buying?
The Mate XT 2 is aimed at consumers looking for something beyond a conventional smartphone or standard foldable device.
Its 10.2-inch tri-fold display, Kirin 9050 Pro processor, upgraded camera system, 5,600mAh battery and optional privacy display make it one of Huawei’s most ambitious smartphones.
However, the high price could make it difficult for many consumers to consider, particularly outside China. International availability is also still an important factor for potential buyers.
