Inihain ni Sen. JV Ejercito ang senate bill kontra online harassment o otherwise known as Emman Atienza bill.
Ang senate bill na isinusulong ni JV Ejercito ay hango sa pangalan ng anak ni Kim Atienza na si Emman, siya ay pumanaw dahil sa cyberbullying.
Hindi lingid sa marami na naging laman ng pambabatikos si Emman matapos lumabas ang mga malisyusong posts tungkol sa kanya sa social media dahil sa pagiging ‘Nepo baby’ nito.
Ibinahagi rin ng ama ni Emman na si Kuya Kim na bata pa lamang ang kanyang anak ay na-diagnose na ito ng PTSD o post-traumatic stress disorder. Kaya malinaw na may pinagdadaanan ang kanyang anak laban sa mental health nito.
Pagbabahagi ni Kuya Kim : “She brought so much joy, laughter, and love into our lives and into the lives of everyone who knew her. Emman had a way of making people feel seen and heard, and she wasn’t afraid to share her own journey with mental health. Her authenticity helped so many feel less alone.”
Kasabay ng mga batikos online, maaaring ito rin ang dahilan kung bakit binawi ng dalaga ang sarili nitong buhay noong Oct. 22, ang cause of death ni Emman ay ‘ligature hanging’ o ang pagpapatiwakal.
Dito na inihain ni Sen. JV ang panukalang-batas na sagot sa online harassment, cyberbullying, fake news at online defamation.
Pagbabahagi ni Sen. JV : “We hope Emman’s passing will not be in vain as we push for the immediate passage of this measure. We need to bring back kindness online, where people pause and think before they post. We must prevent another tragedy where our fellowmen, especially the youth, are pushed to the breaking point by the vitriol of online hate,
“While social media serves as a platform to advocate for truth, it has also given room for ruining reputations, spreading fake news, rumors, false accusations, and violence. In reality, there are no delete or edit buttons for the ones we have hurt,
“With the primary objective to protect individuals from online harassment, this bill seeks to strengthen the implementation of laws that deter cyberbullying and online hate. And as Emman used to always say, to promote ‘a little kindness.” bahagi ng pahayag ni Ejercito.
Ang lalabag sa batas na ito ay may kaukulang multa na nagkakahalaga ng P50,000 to P200,000 na may kasamang pagkakakulong kung mahahatulang guilty.
